The critical edition and analysis of Ludwik Maria Staff's "Grzeszne gołębie"

Praca ma charakter historycznoliteracki oraz edytorski. Pierwszy rozdział przybliża czytelnikom krótką biografię pisarza oraz blisko stuletnią recepcję jego dokonań; druga część poświęcona jest problematyce zwrotu antymodernistycznego, którego przejawy widoczne są w "Grzesznych gołębiach"; trzeci rozdział omawia zaprezentowaną w utworze relację dusza-ciało; w czwartej części zostaje określony stosunek Ludwika Marii Staff do tradycji romantycznej, ostatni zaś rozdział stanowi porównanie tekstu dwóch przekazów – rękopisu oraz wydania gazetowego powieści. Przeprowadzone studium nie ma charakteru pełnej, wyczerpującej i całościowej analizy wszystkich zagadnień powstających w trakcie lektury powieści. Moim głównym zamierzeniem było raczej wybranie kilku kwestii wyłaniających się z książki, a jednocześnie nierzadko poruszanych w dobie fin de siècle’u. Nakreślona struktura pozwoliła mi odczytać przywołane dzieło jako sygnał zwiastujący przełom w sztuce dokonany po pierwszej wojnie światowej.

The dissertation is of a historical, literary and editorial character. The first chapter introduces the readers to the writer's short biography and the nearly 100-year-old reception of his achievements; the second part is devoted to the issue of the anti-modernist turn, the manifestations of which are visible in "Grzeszne gołębie"; the third chapter discusses the soul-body relationship presented in the piece; in the fourth part, the attitude of Ludwik Maria Staff to the Romantic tradition is defined, and the last chapter is a comparison of the text of two accounts - the manuscript and the newspaper edition of the novel. The conducted study is not a complete, exhaustive and comprehensive analysis of all the issues that arise while reading the novel. Rather, my main intention was to select a few issues emerging from the book, and at the same time often raised in the era of the fin de siècle. The outlined structure allowed me to read the cited work as a signal heralding a breakthrough in art made after the First World War.
