Secret contiguity, uncanny intimacy. Strangers and Others in Joanna Bator’s novel „Sandberg“. The present paper focuses on the relations between Poles and Germans on the one hand, Poles and Polish Jews on the other after 1945 displayed in Joanna Bator’s novel “Sandberg”. It dwells upon the strategies of de-/construction of “strangers” and “others” as inclusive resp. exclusive categories of cultural difference, as well as on the novel’s relevance for Polish post mémoire-generation in the context of recent discussions about Jewish-Polish relations and the Shoah.

Der vorliegende Beitrag widmet sich Joanna Bators Roman “Sandberg“ mit Blick auf das darin prominente Verhältnis zwischen Polen und Deutschen sowie Polen und polnischen Juden nach 1945. Bators Strategien zur Darstellung einer De-/Konstruktion von „Fremden“ und „Anderen“ als inklusive bzw. exklusive Kategorie des kulturell Differenten sind ebenso Gegenstand der Lektüre wie die Frage, welchen Aufschluss „Sandberg“ über die polnische Generation der post mémoire im Kontext der jüngsten Debatten über das jüdisch-polnische Verhältnis und die Shoah erlaubt.
