Abstract in English
A Klatskin tumor is a cholangiocarcinoma arising from the bile ducts of the hepatic hilum. This rare and highly lethal tumor is well described in surgical literature. It has a tendency to manifest with jaundice much earlier than peripheral cholangiocarcinoma. Unfortunately, its location in the proximity of the portal vein and hepatic artery results in a grim prognosis of patients diagnosed with it: the 5-year survival rate is about 1%, and may be increased to 20% only after radical resection. Hence the important role of imaging in the selection of patients who may benefit from surgery. This article presents imaging appearances of Klatskin tumor and imaging modalities are discussed in the context of preoperative staging of the disease.
