W oddziale otrzymuje opiekę lekarską, farmakoterapię , a w zespole medycznym jest szereg specjalistów: psycholog, fizjoterapeuta, pielęgniarki, pracownik socjalny, terapeuta zajęciowy. Często istnieje też konieczność pracy z logopeda ze względu na zaburzenia w komunikacji językowej, które wynikaja z obciążenia neurologicznego, jak i procesu starzenia się. Rozdział przedstawia role logopedy w oddziale geriatrycznym. Jest ona ważna ze względu na ułatwienie procesu komunikacji między personelem medycznym, opiekunami, a pacjentem w wieku podeszłym.
