Abstract in English

Clinical and imaging examination of the skull base is difficult due to the complex anatomic structure of this region. Modern neurosurgery demands of the radiologist a precise preoperative diagnosis. The authors describe the most frequent pathologies (of inflammatory, post-traumatic, and especially neoplastic origin) of the frontal, medial, and posterior cranial fossa. The paper presents the symptomatology of the lesions of the skull base in CT and MRI examination. The authors analyze the diagnostic value of CT and MRI as well as the effectiveness of these methods in establishing the extent of the lesion and in finding the optimal method of treatment.
