Abstract: The article describes, according to manuscripts of the Cracovian Biblioteca Jagellonica, the journeys of Augustyn Lipiński in diplomatic mission to Rome. His trip to Italy in a time where the Polish state was born has not only clerical but also political implications: Lipiński learns a lot about Italian cloisters and tries to contribute to the political and social formation of the new Polish society. Especially because of his reliance to the Saxon court, he believes in the dukes of Saxony as the new kings of Poland.
