The paper discusses problems of the European political goals and its role in contemporary world politics as presented from three different points of view by Zygmunt Bauman in his book titled Europe: An Unfinished Adventure, Christian Saint-Etienne in the book Power or Death. Europe versus American Empire and Timothy Radcliffe OP in the book Globalising Hope. Comparing those perspectives the paper shows how differently one can formulate an answer to the basic questions for the European future: what is so special about us - Europeans and what, therefore, is our mission in the world of today? Presented arguments are confronted with a problem of three "lost paths" in the present-day European politics: acknow ledgement of historical truth of its division after the WW II, active pan-European solidarity and the lack of solid civilization root.
