Hecuba was one of the truly tragic figures in mythology; symbolic of her total descent from a noble and favored position as a Trojan queen and a proud mother of many children was the time after the fall of Troy, when Hecuba lost her offspring and become a helpless and desperate captive woman of the the triumphant Greek army. Several accounts of the end of her fate have been preserved in ancient literary, mostly connected with the legend of her being changed into a female-dog. In this paper, I discuss these variants starting from the oldest wersion established by Eurypides and then comparing it with the accounts of Ovid, pollodorus, Hyginus, Servius, and the authors of the pseudoepigraphic chronicles of the Trojan War : Dictys of Crete and Dares the Phrygianpl
