Dorobek naukowy i literacki antropolożki i pisarki Alicji Iwańskiej jest bardzo różnorodny i oryginalny. Za szczególnie ciekawą należy uznać językową i gatunkową dwudzielność jej twórczości: po polsku pisała teksty literackie, a po angielsku - naukowe. Jest też ona klasyczką gatunku nazwanego przez autorkę artykułu prozą etnograficzną. Artykuł analizuje powieść Świat przetłumaczony (1967) opisującą meksykańskie badania terenowe w kontekście biografii autorki i podejmowanych przez nią projektów naukowych, a z drugiej strony - na tle problematyki związanej z literackimi tekstami antropologów.

Academic and literary achievements of an anthropologist and author, Alicja Iwańska are very diverse and original. A linguistic and formal dichotomy of her work is particularly interesting: she wrote her literary texts in Polish while her academic in English. She is also a classic of a geanre - named by the author of the article - ethnographic prose. The article analyzes the novel Translated World (1967) describing the Mexican fieldwork in the context of the biography of the author, and her research projects, and on the other hand - on the background of the issues related to literary texts of anthropologists.
