Victor Pelevin's "Ivan Kublakhanov" as an example of Buddhism in literature

Artykuł sytuuje się na styku literaturoznawstwa i kulturoznawstwa, gdyż dotyczy metod zaprezentowania wątków buddyjskich w beletrystyce. Analiza ogranicza się do opowiadania Iwan Kublahanow autorstwa współczesnego rosyjskiego pisarza Wiktora Pielewina. Rozważania opierają się na przyjęciu doktryny współzależnego wyłaniania za oś utworu. Wskazane zostają również nawiązania do czterech szlachetnych prawd, konceptu anatmana czy Tybetańskiej księgi umarłych. Każdy z elementów zostaje pokrótce wyjaśniony, a jego obecność w tekście ukazana w oparciu o liczne cytaty.

The subject of this article brings together the literary theory and the cultural studies as it concerns introduction of the Buddhist elements into literature. Victor Pelevin's Ivan Kublakhanov is studied as an example of this literary phenomenon. The axe of this short story is assumed to be the doctrine of dependent arising. The Four Noble Truths, the concept of Anatman and The Tibetan Book of the Dead are also taken into consideration. Each element is shortly explained and supported by the presentation of suitable passages of the story.
