Agora for everyone: The ethnography of Centrum Aktywności Lokalnej in Goleniów

Przedmiotem niniejszej pracy jest analiza oraz opis dynamiki kultury organizacyjnej Centrum Aktywności Lokalnej w Goleniowie na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań terenowych w formie antropologii organizacji. Problem badawczy dotyczy związku przestrzeni organizacyjnej a niskim sformalizowaniem struktury społecznej. Podczas badań wykorzystałam następujące metody jakościowe: obserwacje uczestniczące i nieuczestniczące, wywiady oraz etnografię wizualną i analizę tekstu. Wyniki badań empirycznych przedstawione zostały w odniesieniu do części teoretycznej, w której definiuję organizację alternatywną, kulturę organizacyjną oraz wyszczególniam funkcje społeczności lokalnej i rolę przestrzeni publicznej. Dynamikę kultury organizacyjnej Centrum Aktywności Lokalnej w Goleniowie można przyrównać do starożytnej Agory, jednak dostępnej dla wszystkich mieszkańców, którzy z pomocą pracowników CAL budują wspólnie silne społeczeństwo obywatelskie.

The subject of this thesis concerns the dynamics of organizational culture of Centrum Aktywności Lokalnej (The Centre of Civic Activity) in Goleniów. The study offers an analysis and description based on a field research carried out by the adoption of ethnographic methods. This thesis makes a contribution to knowledge in the area of the connections between organizational physical space and its structure. The problem addressed here concerns how space and a largely informal social structure can be used to organize and engage. During the field research the following qualitative methods have been used: participant and non-participant observation, interview, visual ethnography and textual analysis. The results of the empirical research are closely related to the theoretical part of the thesis where the following concepts are presented and defined: alternative organization, organizational culture, and the role of local community and public space. The dynamics of organizational culture of Centrum Aktywności Lokalnej in Goleniów can be compared to the ancient Agora, but, unlike the original, it is inclusive and open to all residents. This is how CAL helps to build together a strong civil society.
