Niniejsza praca odnosi się do wydarzeń, które miały bezpośredni wpływ na kształt współczesnych relacji międzykulturowych w Europie Środkowej i Południowo-Wschodniej oraz postaci Václava Havla - jego obecności w polityce i kulturze. Praca jest efektem badań nad wpływem pierwszego prezydenta Republiki Czeskiej na temat tożsamości narodowej Czechów szczególnie w okresie transformacji politycznej i jego prezydentury. Starano się ukazać krytyczne podejście Havla do polityki, gospodarki i kultury oraz głęboko umoralniający charakter jego działalności. Postawiono tezę, że Václav Havel nawoływał do moralnej odnowy życia społecznego po wyzwoleniu z reżimu komunistycznego oraz zaproponował nową jakość postawy patriotycznej nazwanej „havlowskim patriotyzmem”. Posłużono się metodą analityczno-syntetyczną: fragmenty twórczości literackiej i publicznych wypowiedzi autora Listów do Olgi poddano analizie i syntezie z perspektywy zagadnienia patriotyzmu i życia społeczno-obywatelskiego. Pierwszą część pracy stanowi zarysowanie bogatego dyskursu o patriotyzmie i zdefiniowanie tego pojęcia oraz przytoczenie wybranej typologii. Następnie przedstawiono tło historyczne wydarzeń działalności polityczno-społecznej Havla, szczególnie momentów przełomowych, czyli stworzenie Karty 77 czy aksamitna rewolucja w Czechosłowacji. Zasadnicza część pracy opiera się na analizie wypowiedzi i dzieł literackich Václava Havla, w których podejmował on problem współczesnego czeskiego patriotyzmu w kontekście wyzwalania się z okowów reżimu komunistycznego, tworzenia nowoczesnego społeczeństwa i tożsamości Czechów w perspektywie ich aspiracji do udziału w takich strukturach jak Unia Europejska czy Pakt Północno-Atlantycki (NATO). Analiza składa się z dwóch części: w pierwszej omówiono zagrożenia dla świeżo wyzwolonego społeczeństwa demokratycznego, druga zaś przedstawia wizję Havla na wyjście z kryzysu i odbudowanie życia społecznego w duchu patriotycznym. Jednym z najważniejszych wniosków tej pracy jest fakt, że Václav Havel redefiniuje pojęcie patriotyzmu i tworzy je na nowo odwołując się do podstawowych wartości. Kanwą dla „havlowskiego patriotyzmu” jest poszanowanie godności drugiego człowieka, tolerancja i otwartość, troska o własny region, kraj, Europę i cały świat.

This dissertation refers to the events that had a direct impact on the shape of contemporary intercultural relations in Central and South-Eastern Europe and the figure of Václav Havel - his presence in politics and culture. The work is the result of research on the influence of the first president of the Czech Republic on the national identity of Czechs, especially during the political transformation and his presidency. Havel's critical approach to politics, economy and culture has been emphasized. What is more, deeply moralizing nature of his activities has been shown. A thesis that Václav Havel exhorted for a moral renewal of social life after the liberation from the communist regime and proposed a new quality of patriotic attitude called "Havel patriotism". The analytical-synthetic method was used: fragments of literary works and public statements by the author of Letters to Olga were analyzed and synthesized from the perspective of patriotism and social and civic life. The first part of the work outlines a rich discourse on patriotism and defines this concept as well as quotes a selected typology. Then, the historical background of the events of Havel's political and social activity is presented, especially the turning points, such as the creation of Card 77 or the Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia. The main part of the work is based on the analysis of Václav Havel's statements and literary works, in which he addressed the problem of contemporary Czech patriotism in the context of breaking free from the bonds of the communist regime, creating a modern society and the identity of the Czechs in the perspective of their aspirations to participate in such structures as the European Union or North Atlantic Pact (NATO). The analysis consists of two parts: the first discusses the threats to a newly liberated democratic society, and the second presents Havel's vision for overcoming the crisis and rebuilding social life in a patriotic spirit. One of the most important conclusions of this work is the fact that Václav Havel redefines the concept of patriotism and creates it anew by referring to basic values. The canvas for "Havel's patriotism" is respect for the dignity of others, tolerance and openness, care for one's own region, country, Europe and the whole world.
