Waterfowl symbolism in the Bronze Age

Niniejsza praca podejmuję problematykę związaną z symbolizmem ptaka wodnego w epoce brązu oraz wyobrażeń eschatologicznych ludności pradziejowej na terenie Europy. W pracy zostały przedstawione wybrane kultury archeologiczne od neolitu po późną epokę brązu, w których pojawia się symbol ptaka. Analizie poddane zostały konteksty znalezisk przedmiotów ornitomorficznych, symbole im towarzyszące oraz obrządek pogrzebowy omawianych kultur. Na tej podstawie rozpatrywane są kwestie takie jak korelacja obrządku pogrzebowego z symboliką ptasią, wyobrażenia dotyczące duszy człowieka oraz kwestie utylitarne związane z ptakami.

This work deals with the issues related to the symbolism of the waterfowls in the Bronze Age and the eschatological images of the prehistoric population in Europe. The work presents selected archaeological cultures from the Neolithic to the Late Bronze Age, in which the symbol of a bird appears. The contexts of ornithomorphic finds, accompanying symbols and the funeral rites of the cultures discussed were analyzed. On this basis, issues such as the correlation of the funeral rite with bird symbolism, ideas about the human soul and utilitarian issues related to birds are considered.
