Antique influence on the novel ,,Homo Faber'' by Max Frisch in comparison to the film adaptation by Volker Schlöndorff

W pracy magisterskiej badam wpływy antyczne w książce ,,Homo Faber" Maxa Frischa oraz jej adaptacji filmowej ,,Voyager" Volkera Schlöndorffa. Temat jest dosyć obszerny, dlatego w pracy koncentruje się głównie na mitologii, a także kilku innych antycznych motywach. Na początku pracy skupiam się na charakterystyce poszczególnych postaci i ich wzajemnej relacji w odniesieniu do mitologii. Faber jawi się jako współczesny Edyp, który w swoim życiu nieustannie próbuje uciec swojemu przeznaczeniu. Faber w swoim życiu wierzy w technikę, postęp, a swoje poglądy opiera na nauce. W dalszej części pracy opisuje atagonistyczne poglądy na świat przedstawione w kontrastowych obrazach ludzi, światów, miejsc. Pod koniec pracy poświęcam osobny rozdział na analizę motywów antycznych oraz dokładne porównanie książki i filmu pod względem treści i struktury. Między obydwoma dziełami można znaleźć wiele różnic, jednak posiadają one także swoje podobieństwa. W kontekście wpływów antycznych przoduje książka, która posiada ich o wiele więcej niż film, który skupia się głównie na miłosnej historii Fabera, pomijając wiele głębokich wątków.

In my master's thesis I examine antique influences in Max Frisch's book "Homo Faber" and its film adaptation "Voyager" by Volker Schlöndorff. The topic is quite extensive, so the work focuses mainly on mythology, as well as a few other antique motifs. At the beginning of the work I focus on the characteristics of individual characters and their mutual relations in relation to mythology. Faber appears as a contemporary Oedipus, who in his life constantly tries to escape his destiny. In his life, Faber believes in technology, progress, and bases his views on science. In the further part of the work he describes the atagonistic views on the world presented in contrasting images of people, worlds, places. At the end of the work I devote a separate chapter to the analysis of ancient motifs and a thorough comparison of the book and film in terms of content and structure. There are many differences between the two works, but they also have similarities. In the context of antique influences, the book is leading the way, which has much more of them than the film, which focuses mainly on Faber's love story, omitting many deep threads.

In meiner Masterarbeit untersuche ich antike Einflüsse in Max Frischs Buch "Homo Faber" und dessen Verfilmung "Voyager" von Volker Schlöndorff. Die Thematik ist recht umfangreich, so dass sich das Werk hauptsächlich auf die Mythologie sowie einige andere antike Motive konzentriert. Zu Beginn der Arbeit konzentriere ich mich auf die Charakteristika der einzelnen Figuren und ihre gegenseitigen Beziehungen in Bezug auf die Mythologie. Faber erscheint als ein zeitgenössischer Ödipus, der in seinem Leben ständig versucht, seinem Schicksal zu entkommen. Faber glaubt in seinem Leben an Technologie und Fortschritt und stützt seine Ansichten auf die Wissenschaft. Im nächsten Teil des Werkes beschreibe ich die atagonistischen Ansichten über die Welt, die in kontrastierenden Bildern von Menschen, Welten, Orten dargestellt werden. Am Ende der Arbeit widme ich der Analyse antiker Motive und einem gründlichen inhaltlichen und strukturellen Vergleich von Buch und Film ein eigenes Kapitel. Es gibt viele Unterschiede zwischen den beiden Werken, aber sie haben auch ihre Gemeinsamkeiten. Im Zusammenhang mit antiken Einflüssen ist das Buch wegweisend, das viel mehr davon hat als der Film, der sich hauptsächlich auf Fabers Liebesgeschichte konzentriert und viele tiefe Fäden auslässt.
