This thesis discusses the historical and social context of the development of the French language in Louisiana in the United States from the middle of the 17th century to the present day. It also discusses the variations that have developed there over that time and presents its current situation. It concludes with a selection of words that represent the local character of the French language.

Ce travail aborde le contexte historique et social du développement de la langue française en Louisiane aux États-Unis du milieu du XVIIe siècle à nos jours. Il présente également les variétés de français qui s'y sont développées au cours de cette période ainsi que sa situation actuelle. Il se termine par une sélection de mots qui représentent le caractère local de la langue française.
