The subject of the thesis is the graphic design of books about horses and riding. The author analyzes the selection of graphics and the organization of content in each type of publication. She looks at books from the perspective of an editor and a riding instructor. The introduction outlines the reasons for writing the thesis, as well as its points and aim. It is followed by a text on designing a publication, which describes the dilemmas that the graphic designers resolve. The next two chapters deal with ancient books about horses. They show the differences between the editions of the book entitled "Hippika to jest o koniach księgi" and selected publications from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries were discussed. Then, the organization of the content of three scientific books on horses in history and culture is described. The next chapter is devoted to the functionality of the graphic design in dictionaries containing specialized equestrian terminology and phraseological relationships referring to horse riding. Then, it was shown how the lexicons of horse breeds differ in terms of content organization and the selection of photos or illustrations. The next chapter deals with the role of graphics in equestrian textbooks. For the authors of this type of book, the most important thing is the functionality of the image, which facilitates the understanding of the described issue. It can show movement or affect the viewer's imagination by means of associations. The last chapter is about books for the general public. These are photo albums and publications containing questions with answers and interesting facts about horses. The work is a review of books that are as varied as the equestrian world is.
