Maurycy Mochnacki in the ends of Polish romanticism

The article describes two opposed to each other postures of Maurycy Mochnacki (1803-1834), one of the most important Polish critic of literature and political writer in the romanticism’s time, on the Polish intellectual map in the second and third decade of 19th century. M. Mochnacki decidedly threw off rules of the enlightenment’s literature and created own original project of the new romantic art. That was a great apologia of the literature. In the time of November Uprising and the Great Emigration he radically changed his attitude to the literature. Then it became for him the useless power, which delayed an explosion of the new uprising and a European revolution. M. Mochnacki announced even a symbolical death of the art. In the few days before death, when he was dying, he came back to his view on the structure of the world.
