The article presents an outline of the history of cataloguing books in the Jagiellonian Library from the 19th century until the present. It shows the functioning of the section responsible for cataloguing books against the background of the changes in the organizational structure of the Jagiellonian Library. It presents the changes in the organization of cataloguing, describing in turn the various cataloguing guidelines and instructions as well as the changing methods and librarians' work tools.
