E.T.A. Hoffmann in Translation - an attempt of introducing the reception of the German author in Polish Translation.

Niniejsza praca podejmuje próbę zarysowania recepcji Ernesta Teodora Amadeusza (Wilhelma) Hoffmanna w kontekście dostępnych polskich przekładów jego prozy. Celem rozprawy jest przedstawienie poszczególnych spolszczeń oraz analiza i interpretacja przejawów ich odbioru (recenzji, artykułów prasowych, paraktekstów). Omówione tłumaczenia składają się na historię niemieckiego romantyka na gruncie polskim, której przebieg wyznaczają nie tylko tłumacze jego utworów, ale również panujące w poszczególnych epokach mody i tendencje literackie.

The dissertation attempts to outline the reception of Ernst Theodor Amadeus (Wilhelm) Hoffmann in the context of available Polish translations of his prose. The aim of the thesis is to introduce the Polish translations of Hoffmann's work as well as to analyze and interpret the proper displays of their reception (reviews, articles, paratexts). The presented translations create the history of the German Romantic writer in Poland and the course of this history is determined not only by the individual translators of his narratives, but also through literary trends prevailing in each period of time.
