Village dummy: identity – symbol – archetype

Praca traktuje o postaci głupka wioskowego i typologii tego rodzaju kreacji, archetypicznych źródłach i nadprzyrodzonych zależnościach, w jakie jest uwikłany. W centrum wywodu znajduje się sylwetka człowieka psychicznie chorego, wyalienowanego, nie w pełni uświadomionego w społecznym bytowaniu, ale przy tym mądrego, choć nie w normatywny sposób. Na podstawie utworów Tadeusza Nowaka i Tarjei Vesaasa oraz odwołań do malarstwa Marca Chagalla figura pomylonego została przedstawiona jako ta, która wiąże się z zagadką poznawczą i z swej natury jest niejednolita. Osią porównań i interpretacji przeprowadzonych w pracy są wielowymiarowość tożsamości głupka, jej transcendentne związki z przestrzenią natury, Absolutem oraz folklorystyczne związki kulturowe.

The following work discusses a figure of the village dummy, typology of such characters, along with archetypal sources and supernatural issues, in which he is entangled. At the center of the argument, there is a profile of an alienated, mentally disabled man, not entirely aware of societal norms, yet somehow wise – although not in a normative way. Based on works of Tadeusz Nowak and Tarjei Vessas, together with references to Marc Chagall’s painting, the figure of the village dummy was portrayed in relation to a cognitive mystery and as by its nature ambivalent. An axis of comparisons and interpretations contained in the work is a multidimensionality of the village dummy’s identity and its transcendent connections to the realm of nature, Absolute and folklore culture.
