Strategies in creating masculinity in Alpha/Beta/Omega universe in fan fiction

Praca ma na celu omówienie problematyki związanej z kreowaniem męskości w uniwersum Alpha/Beta/Omega w twórczości fan fiction. Stworzony przez społeczność fanowską świat narracyjny wprowadza dodatkowy system płci, który cechują animalistyczne cechy i zachowania, hierarchizacja płciowa oraz patriarchalna ideologia płci i seksualności. Praca ma za zadanie zbadać jakie formy męskości pojawiają się w opowieściach Alpha/Beta/Omega. To męskie postacie stają się głównymi bohaterami tych tekstów, realizując różne, przypisane im przez fan-twórców role – od seksualnego drapieżcy po ofiarę. Przegląd prac, a także dogłębna analiza wybranych przykładów, pozwoliły na wskazanie trzech głównych strategii kreowania męskości w narracjach tego typu: antagonizację, degradację i idealizację. W pracy omówione zostały również zagadnienia związane z identyfikacją płci i seksualnością, które stanowią nieodłączne elementy omawianego uniwersum. Inne aspekty, które zostały poruszone w tej pracy to problematyka kobiecej pornografii, której przejawem jest omawiane uniwersum, heteronormatywny charakter relacji między postaciami tej samej płci i homoerotyzm w narracjach fanowskich.

The thesis examines the representation of masculinities in Alpha/Beta/Omega universe in fan fiction works. This fictional narrative world created by fan community, presents additional gender system based on animalistic traits and behaviours, gender hierarchy and patriarchal ideology of gender and sexuality. The purpose of the study is to examine the forms of masculinities present in the Alpha/Beta/Omega stories. The male characters become the main characters in those works, carrying out various roles assigned to them by the fan-authors – from the sexual predator to the victim. Overview of the said stories, as well as thorough analysis of the chosen works, allowed to distinguish three main strategies in creating masculinity in those narrations: antagonization, degradation and idealization. The thesis focuses also on the matters of gender identification and sexuality as one of the main themes in this fictional universe. Other aspects that have been addressed include the woman’s pornography and Alpha/Beta/Omega stories as its representation, heterornormative image of relationship between people of the same sex and homoerotism in fan narrations.
