Celem tej pracy licencjackiej jest analiza wybranych wierszy Krzysztofa Kamila Baczyńskiego, wraz z ich angielskim tłumaczeniem, oraz porównanie użytych w nich obrazów i metafor. W pierwszej część teoretycznej analizowane są badania dotyczące obrazowania w literaturze. Następnie, przedstawione są niektóre z teorii na temat metafory i personifikacji. Druga część teoretyczna odnosi się do tłumaczenia poezji. Wymienione są trudności jakie mogą wystąpić w czasie tłumaczenia, a także strategie jakie można przedsięwziąć. Problem nieprzetłumaczalności w literaturze poddany jest krótkiej analizie. Na część praktyczną składa krótka biografia Krzysztofa Kamila Baczyńskiego i tłumacza, Billa Johnstona. Przybliżone są cechy poezji Baczyńskiego, a także to, na czym polega jej trudność. Na koniec, przedstawiona jest analiza trzech wybranych wierszy Krzysztofa Kamila Baczyńskiego wraz z ich tłumaczeniami. Analiza ta opiera się na teoriach wspomnianych w poprzednich rozdziałach.

The aim of the thesis is to analyse the selection of poems by Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński and their English translation, and compare the use of imagery and metaphors in the original and the translation. The first theoretical part deals with the studies on imagery in literature. There is also an analysis of some theories on metaphor and personification. The second theoretical part is concerned with translating poetry. The difficulties that can arise during an act of translation are presented, along with the strategies that can be undertaken. The issue of untranslatability in literature is also briefly discussed. The practical part consists of a short biographical note about Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński, and the translator, Bill Johnston. Then, the characteristics and difficulties of Baczyński’s poetry are mentioned and discussed. Lastly, the analysis of the three chosen poems by Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński along with their translations follows. The analysis draws on the theories mentioned in the earlier chapters.
