Capture of Jerusalem by British forces in 1917

Celem mojej pracy jest przedstawienie operacji zdobycia Jerozolimy podczas I wojny światowej przez wojska Egipskiego Korpusu Ekspedycyjnego. W pracy poruszam także zagadnienia poprzedzające to wydarzenie - w pierwszym rozdziale opisuję sytuację Imperium Osmańskiego oraz Palestyny przed wojną oraz sam początek tego konfliktu na Bliskim Wschodzie. W drugim rozdziale skupiam się na samym natarciu na Jerozolimę, natomiast trzeci rozdział jest swoistym epilogiem tej historii i kończy się na podpisaniu kapitulacji przez Turcję. Poruszane przeze mnie kwestie nie ograniczają się do samego pokazania tego procesu, ale również staram się nieco na to spojrzeć z antropologicznego punktu widzenia - usiłuję spojrzeć na życie codzienne brytyjskich żołnierzy, ich mentalność i religijność. Wykorzystane do tego pamiętniki uczestników kampanii palestyńskiej oraz bogata literatura anglojęzyczna bardzo w tym pomogły.

Main goal of my thesis is to describe capture of Jerusalem during First World War by troops of Egyptian Expeditionary Corps. I also bring up the events preceding this one - in the first chapter I describe situation of pre-war Ottoman Empire and Palestine and the very beginning of the conflict in the Middle East. In the next chapter I focus on advance on the Jerusalem, and the third chapter is an epilogue of sorts ending with Ottoman declaration of surrender. Matters discussed by me don't limit to showcasing of the process itself but I also attempt to look at it from the anthropologic point of view - I try to describe the routine of British troops, their mentality and spirituality. Memoirs of the participants of the Palestine campaign and opulence of anglophonic literature about this subject brought up here, turned out to be most useful in this matter.
