Praca porusza rolę grzeczności i niegrzeczności językowej w amerykańskich debatach prezydenckich w 2016 roku. Zakres analizy obejmuje realizację strategii grzeczności i niegrzeczności przez uczestników debat w kontekście teorii grzeczności autorstwa Brown and Levinsona oraz teorii niegrzeczności autorstwa Culpepera. Rozdział pierwszy zawiera teoretyczne podłoże, które służy jako baza do praktycznej analizy przebiegu debat. Rozdział pierwszy skupia się na pojęciu grzeczności i niegrzeczności w kontekście debat politycznych. Rozdziały 2-4 są całkowicie poświęcone praktycznej analizie debat. Fragmenty debat są poddane analizie i omówione pod względem strategii grzeczności i niegrzeczności wykorzystywanych przez Hillary Clinton i Donalda J. Trumpa w czasie trzech debat prezydenckich. Ostatnia część rozdziału trzeciego zawiera wnioski wysunięte na podstawie przeprowadzonej analizy.

The thesis addresses the role of politeness and impoliteness in American presidential debates in 2016. The scope of the study is the realization of politeness and impoliteness strategies by the presidential candidates in the context of Brown and Levinson's politeness theory and Culpeper’s impoliteness theory. The first chapter contains theoretical background which serve as the necessary framework for the practical analysis of debate proceedings. The main focus of chapter one is the discussion of politeness and impoliteness in the context of political debates. Chapters 2-4 are devoted to the practical analysis of the debates. The excerpts taken from the debates are analysed and discussed in terms of politeness and impoliteness strategies employed by Hillary Clinton and Donald J. Trump during three presidential debates. The final part of chapter four contains conclusions drawn from the conducted analysis.
