Napisy w animacji dla dorosłych – techniki tłumaczenia humoru, odniesień kulturowych i przekleństw w polskim przekładzie Archera na platformie Netflix

Od czasu gdy w latach 90. animacja na powrót stała się gatunkiem dla dorosłych, kreskówki zyskały na znaczeniu w Stanach Zjednoczonych, a z powodu amerykanizacji oraz upowszechnienia telewizji satelitarnej i mediów strumieniowych, takich jak Netflix, na całym świecie. Tłumaczenie animacji dla dorosłych wymaga polisemiotycznego podejścia, jako że element wizualny wpływa na wybory dokonywane przez tłumacza. Cechami charakterystycznymi gatunku są: lubieżny humor, wulgarny obraz, przekleństwa i zawiła intertekstualność mogąca wpłynąć na odbiór programu. W swojej pracy omawiam różne aspekty tłumaczenia napisów do pierwszych czterech sezonów Archera dostępnych na platformie Netflix. Szczególną uwagę poświęcam tłumaczeniu humoru, odniesień kulturowych i wulgaryzmów. Pomimo zdecydowanie pozytywnych recenzji, Archer pozostaje w Polsce produkcją mało znaną w porównaniu do innych animacji dla dorosłych. Z tego powodu chcę również zbadać możliwy związek między brakiem szerszej rozpoznawalności kreskówki a jakością napisów.

Since it has been reclaimed as an adult genre in the 1990s, animation has gained significant recognition in the US and, as a result of Americanisation and the popularization of satellite television and streaming platforms such as Netflix, all around the world. Translating adult animation requires a polysemiotic approach, as the visual component often limits the translator’s choices. The genre is characterised by raunchy humour, explicit images, use of vulgarisms and obscure intertextuality that can hinder the reception of the series. In my thesis, I discuss various aspects of Archer’s translation into Polish, having analysed its first four seasons available in subtitled version on Netflix. I focus specifically on the translation of humour, cultural references and vulgarisms. Despite its overwhelmingly positive reviews Archer remains fairly unknown in Poland when compared to other adult animations, therefore I also want to investigate if the lack of recognition can be tied to the quality of the subtitles.
