Celem mojej pracy magisterskiej jest analiza roli kobiety w „Pentameronie” Giambattisty Basilego, prawdziwego dzieła włoskiej literatury baroku. „Pentameron”, znany również pod nazwą "Lo cunto de li Cunti” bądź „Il racconto dei racconti” („Baśń nad baśniami”), to wspaniały zbiór pełen baśniowych historii, który pozwala czytelnikowi na zanurzenie się w cudownie dziwnym i magicznym świecie. Używając neapolitańskiego dialektu, który w tamtych czasach był postrzegany raczej jako język teatralny, Basile nie tylko oddaje prostotę opowieści ludowych, ukazując równocześnie ironiczne spojrzenie na neapolitańską arystokrację, lecz również przyczynia się do rozprzestrzeniania się nowego gatunku literackiego, jakim jest baśniowa opowieść. Moja praca składa się z dwóch części: we wstępnie opisuję najważniejsze aspekty niezbędne do analizy dzieła, takie jak postrzeganie świata w epoce baroku, postać autora, narracja w dialekcie, społeczeństwo Neapolu w XVII wieku, a także samo dzieło i baśniowa opowieść, całkiem nowy gatunek literacki, a wreszcie pozycję płci żeńskiej w epoce baroku. W pierwszym rozdziale prezentuję status kobiety w „Pentameronie” oraz najważniejsze aspekty pojawiające się w dziele. W drugim rozdziale koncentruję się na portrecie kobiety w środowisku rodzinnym, a także na jej relacjach z pozostałymi członkami rodziny i na konsekwencjach ich zróżnicowanych związków. W trzecim rozdziale opisuję szerzej problem kobiecego ciała, który pojawia się w historiach „Pentameronu” oraz porównuję je z ówczesnym spojrzeniem na fizyczność kobiety. W ostatnim, czwartym rozdziale, koncentruję się na postaciach kobiecych pochodzących ze świata bajki, czyli czarodziejkach i orkach, a także na tym, jaki mają one wpływ na resztę postaci z dzieła. Na samym końcu pracy prezentuję moje wnioski, które wynikają z całościowej analizy „Pentameronu”, a dokładniej, występujących w nim kobiet oraz ich cech, a także zachowań, bazując ciągle na myśli baroku.

The subject of my master’s thesis is the analysis of the role of woman in “the Pentamerone” of Giambattista Basile, real masterpiece of Italian Baroque literature. “The Pentamerone”, also known as “Lo cunto de li cunti” or “Il racconto dei racconti” (“Tale of Tales”) is a really magnificent collection of stories from a magic world, which introduces the reader into this very different world. Using the neapolitan dialect, in these times considered rather a language of theatre, Basile doesn’t just reproduce the simplicity of folk stories, in the same time presenting an ironic view on neapolitan aristocratic culture, but also contributes to diffusion of the brand new literary genre: the fairy tale. My thesis consists of two parts: in the introduction, I describe the fundamental notions for the entire analysis of the book, like how people perceived the world in the period of Baroque, author, dialectal narrative, neapolitan society in the XVII century, book, genre of fairy tale and finally, the female condition in the period of Baroque. In the first chapter, I present the condition of woman in “the Pentamerone” and the most important concepts, like change of status and position of woman in “Pentamerone”’s society. In next chapter, I focus on the woman’s portrait in the family and her relations with other family members and also the consequences of their different relationships. In the third chapter, I deeply describe the female body in stories presented in the book, comparing it also to the perception of woman corporality in the XVII century. In the last, fourth chapter, I concentrate on the women, who come from the world of magic, that means the fairies and the ogres and their impact on the book characters. In the end of my thesis, I present my conclusions related to the whole analysis of “the Pentamerone” and more specifically on the female characters and their characteristics and behaviors, always in the light of the period of Italian Baroque literature.

L’oggetto della mia tesi di laurea magistrale è l’analisi del ruolo della donna nel “Pentamerone” di Giambattista Basile, un vero e proprio capolavoro del Barocco italiano. Il “Pentamerone”, conosciuto anche come “Lo cunto de li cunti” oppure “Il racconto dei racconti” è una raccolta veramente splendida e piena di storie provenienti dal mondo fiabesco, la quale permette al lettore di immergersi in quel mondo magico e straordinario. Con l’uso del suo dialetto napoletano, in quell’epoca considerato prevalentemente la lingua teatrale, Basile non solo riesce a riprodurre la semplicità del racconto popolare, presentando anche allo stesso tempo uno sguardo ironico alla cultura aristocratica napoletana, ma anche contribuisce alla diffusione di un genere letterario nuovo: il racconto fiabesco.La mia tesi è divisa in due parti: nella parte introduttiva descrivo le nozioni cruciali per l’analisi del libro, come sguardo barocco sul mondo, figura dell’autore, narrativa dialettale, società napoletana nel Seicento e l’opera stessa, il genere del racconto fiabesco e infine, condizione della donna nel Barocco. Nel primo capitolo presento la condizione femminile nel “Cunto” e i concetti fondamentali nell’opera, come il cambiamento dello status e della posizione della donna nella società del “Pentamerone”. Nel secondo capitolo mi concentro sul ritratto della donna nell’ambiente della famiglia e le sue relazioni con altri membri della famiglia e le conseguenze dei loro rapporti variegati. Nel terzo capitolo descrivo più profondamente il corpo femminile nei racconti del “Cunto”, paragonandolo anche con la percezione della fisicità femminile nell’epoca del Barocco. Nell’ultimo, ovvero il quarto capitolo, mi concentro sulle figure femminili provenienti dal mondo fiabesco, cioè le fate e le orche e il loro impatto sui personaggi del libro. Alla fine della tesi, presento le mie conclusioni che risultano dall’intera analisi del “Pentamerone” e più specificamente delle figure femminili e delle loro caratteristiche e comportamenti, sempre alla luce dello sguardo barocco.
