Indian Reservations in the USA - Cause of their Establishing and Nowadays Functioning

Praca ma celu przybliżenie przyczyn powstania rezerwatów indiańskich w Stanach Zjednoczonych, jak i również określić ich funkcjonowanie. Obejmuje ona najważniejsze wydarzenia dotyczące ludności rodzimej z okresu powstawania rezerwatów- m.in Akt o Przesiedleniu Indian, Dawes Act czy Ustawę o Reorganizacji Indian, która była częścią Nowego Ładu F. D. Roosevelta. Praca po krótce opisuje także zasady funkcjonowania władzy plemiennej (legislaturę, egzekutywę i sądownictwo), jak i również przybliża problemy, z jakimi borykała się ludność rdzenna w czasie procesu długoletniej akceptacji nowego sposobu życia.

The aim of this work is to show the cause of establishing of Indian reservations in United States of America, as well as determine their nowadays functioning. It covers the most important events concerning the native population at the time of reservations' creation. It contains such documents as The Removal Act, Dawes Act and Indian Reorganization Act, which was a part of F.D. Roosevelt’s New Deal. The work briefly describes principles of the functioning of tribal authority (legislature, executive and judiciary). It also portraits the problems faced by the indigenous people during the process of long-term acceptance of a new way of life.
