Inside the world of stop-motion fairy tales. Study case of studio Laika.

Praca skupia się na czterech filmach amerykańskiego studia Laika, które wykorzystuje animację poklatkową: "Koralina i tajemnicze drzwi", "ParaNorman", "Pudłaki" oraz "Kubo i dwie struny". W przytoczonych przykładach można odnaleźć elementy typowe dla baśni, dlatego filmy te poddane zostają analizie pod kątem wykorzystywania cech tego gatunku. Filmowy sposób podejścia w wymienionych przykładach do kwestii takich jak struktura fabularna, konstrukcja bohaterów i świata oraz morał opowieści, porównany zostaje z jego przedstawieniem w klasycznej literackiej bajce magicznej. W celu przeprowadzenia takiego porównania część pracy odnosi się do rozwoju gatunku baśni i teorii literackich mających na niego wpływ. Praca próbuje odpowiedzieć na pytanie, w jakim stopniu filmy studia Laika realizują wyznaczniki baśni, a w jakim proponują nowe rozwiązania i przełamują schematy.

The work focuses on four films of the American studio Laika, which uses stop-motion animation: "Coraline", "ParaNorman", "The Boxtrolls" and "Kubo and the two strings". In these examples it is possible to find elements typical for fairy tales, and because of that these films are analyzed in terms of using the features of fairy tales genre. The films' approach in the above-mentioned examples to issues such as the plot structure, the construction of the characters and the world, and the moral of the story is compared to its presentation in the classic literary fairy tale. In order to carry out such a comparison, part of the work refers to the development of the genre of fairy tales and literary theories affecting it. The work tries to answer the question to what extent Laika's films use the qualities of fairy tales and how they propose new solutions and break the patterns.
