Feminist ideas and views of women in fairy tales and chosen examples of prose for children and teenagers

Niniejsza praca ma charakter teoretyczny i składa się z sześciu rozdziałów. W rozdziale pierwszym mającym formę wprowadzenia przedstawiłam działania kobiet prowadzące do rozwoju myśli feministycznej i nowego rozpatrzenia statusu społecznego płci żeńskiej. W części tej zawarłam także główne typy nurtu feministycznego z uwzględnieniem cech łączących i różnicujących te odłamy. Rozdział drugi poświęciłam krytyce feministycznej oraz zagadnieniu płci społeczno-kulturowej. Zwróciłam szczególną uwagę na funkcjonowanie feminizmu w obrębie literatury oraz wskazałam najważniejsze koncepcje, które umożliwiły nowe spojrzenie na tradycję i kulturę. W rozdziale trzecim podjęłam rozważania dotyczące nowych wyzwań literatury dla dzieci i młodzieży, która w obliczu zmian obyczajowych nie pozostaje wolna od problematyki podziału płciowego. Rozdział czwarty zawiera wizerunki dziewczynek i kobiet w powieściach dla młodego czytelnika. Wybrane utwory poddałam analizie feministyczno-genderowej i podkreśliłam stereotypowe role społeczne i cechy rodzajowe, przez pryzmat których kreowane są postaci kobiece i męskie. W rozdziale piątym przedstawiłam główne typy kobiecych bohaterek w baśniach. W sposób szczególny wskazałam na odmienne wzorce męskości i kobiecości oraz uwarunkowane płciowo konstrukty postaci zawarte w ponadczasowych opowieściach baśniowych. Rozdział szósty będący ostatnią częścią mojej pracy wskazuje na związek feminizmu oraz płci społeczno-kulturowej z edukacją szkolną. Zwieńczeniem moich rozważań są propozycje scenariuszy lekcyjnych, które mają na celu ułatwić uczniom zapoznanie się ze stereotypowymi wyobrażeniami i oczekiwaniami względem płci.

The phenomenon of feminism and gender category currently provide vital research tools for humanistic and social studies. Both of these currents have had a large impact on gender perception and the division between “femininity” and “masculinity” in social area. The feminist thought affected literary studies space in a special manner and enriched it with new interpretation approaches whilst presenting the need to reevaluate the cultural text in a gender context. To this issue I have dedicated this thesis, to make an attempt of analyzing children literature and fairy tales from a feminist and gender theory approach.This thesis has a theoretical character and is comprised of six chapters. In the first, introductory chapter I present women’s actions which led to the development of feminist thought and a new consideration of feminine social status. In this part I also include the main sorts of feminist current with the addition of points which link or diverse certain sections. The second chapter is dedicated to the feminist criticism and the question of socio-cultural gender. I emphasise the thriving of feminism in the literature as well as the most important concepts which have shown new approaches to tradition and culture. In the third chapter I indicate the new challenges to the children and teenagers literature which, in the face of changes, does not stay free of the gender division issues. Chapter four contains the images of girls and women in the novels dedicated to a younger audience. I examine chosen examples with a feminist-gender approach and underline stereotypical social roles and type traits to distinct male and female characters. In the fifth chapter I present the main types of female figures in fairy tales. I particularly indicate the diverse patterns of masculinity and feminini-ty and gender-conditioned constructs of characters which are shown in timeless fairy tales. Chapter six is the last part of my thesis and underlines the connection between feminism, socio-cultural gender and the school education. The conclusion of my thoughts are the sug-gestions of lesson scenarios, which aim to simplify the acquaintance of students with stereo-typical depictions and expectations of genders.
