Differences and relations of the inhabitants of the borderland cities on the example of Brodnica and Rypin

Brodnica i Rypin to miasta położone blisko dawnej, dziś już historycznej, granicy zaborów: pruskiego i rosyjskiego. W zaborze pruskim panował większy ład niż w rosyjskim. Mieszkańcy tzw. „kongresówki”, w wyniku polityki zaborcy, byli biedniejsi, głównie trudniąc się rolnictwem. Po drugiej stronie granicy – państwo prawa i rzemiosła. Różnice ekonomiczne, gospodarcze oraz społeczno-kulturowe były nieuniknione. Te różnice przetrwały do dziś. W przypadku Brodnicy i Rypina od lat były one pretekstem do wzajemnych uszczypliwości. Wieloletnia historia konfliktowości tego terytorium skłoniła mnie do zastanowienia się, jakie dzisiaj są stosunki mieszkańców tych pogranicznych miast, które mają swój niepowtarzalny charakter. Praca jest zatem również próbą nazwania stosunków między mieszkańcami Brodnicy i Rypina, odkryciu, jaki jest ich charakter – pozytywny, czy negatywny, oraz jak te stosunki będą wyglądać w przyszłości w dobie globalizacji oraz zanikania granic. Pod tym katem, latach osiemdziesiątych, Jerzy Holzer wraz z grupą studentów badali Golub-Dobrzyń, formułując tezę, iż te różnice za 10-15 lat ulegną one zatarciu i zapomnieniu. Od tego czasu minęły ponad trzy dekady, warto zatem skonfrontować ją z dzisiejszym stanem stosunków między mieszkańcami miast pogranicznych, tym razem na obszarze Brodnica-Rypin, położonym niedaleko Golubia i Dobrzynia i odznaczającym się bardzo podobnymi cechami.

Brodnica and Rypin are cities situated near the former, now historic, border of the partitions: Prussian and Russian. There was a greater order in Prussian occupation, than in Russian. Residents of the so-called "Kongresówka", as a result of the policy of the occupying forces, were poorer, mainly engaged in farming. On the other side of the border - the state of law and crafts. Economic and socio-cultural differences were unavoidable. These differences have survived to this day. They have been a pretext for mutual reluctance over the years in Brodnica and Rypin. The long history of conflict in this territory has led me to reflect on what are the relations of inhabitants of these borderland cities today. . The work is also an attempt to name the relationship between the inhabitants of Brodnica and Rypin, the discovery of what is their nature - positive or negative, and how these relations will look in the future in the age of globalization and the disappearance of borders. Under this angle, in the eighties, Jerzy Holzer together with a group of students studied Golub-Dobrzyn, proposing that these differences in 10-15 years will be obliterated and forgotten. Since then it has been more than three decades, so it is worthwhile to confront it with today's relations between the inhabitants of the border towns, this time in the area of ​​Brodnica-Rypin, which is very similar to the caseof Golub-Dobrzyn.
