Battle for the flag? Political myth in the context of Poland and the European Union

Niniejsza praca magisterska przedstawia problematykę związaną z mitem politycznym, którego pojawianie się można zaobserwować w kontekście Polski i Unii Europejskiej. W pierwszym rozdziale skupiono się na zdefiniowaniu pojęcia mitu politycznego. W pracy opracowano jeden przypadek mitu - stosunek do flagi przyjętej przez Unię Europejską. Użyto koncepcji Rolanda Barthesa, aby ukazać odniesienie emblematu unijnego do flagi polskiej i tego, jak wychodzi ono poza podstawowe znaczenia. Kontekst rozważań na temat mitu został ograniczony do wskazania problematyki definicji prawicy i lewicy w Polsce. Przyjrzano się komentarzom internautów pod wybranymi artykułami, w celu ukazania owych niejasności.

This master thesis presents the issues related to the political myth, the appearance of which can be observed in the context of the Poland and European Union. The first chapter focuses on defining the concept of a political myth. In the paper one case of the myth has been elaborated - the attitude towards the flag adopted by the European Union. The concept of Roland Barthes was used to show the reference of the EU emblem to the Polish flag and how it goes beyond the basic meanings. Context of reflection on the myth was limited to the definition of the right wing politics and left wing politics definition in Poland. The internet users' comments concerning the selected articles were analyzed to illustrate these uncertainties.
