The subject of this thesis is the abstract painting of Vasily Kandinsky, with the background of his biography. Its purpose is to confirm the correctness to define non-figurative painting as natural continuation of the art of previous centuries. The work consists of two parts, the first of which contains an overview of the development of art in Europe and Russia since the mid-nineteenth century, and the second is a detailed account of the achievements and events of Kandinsky's life, which have had a direct impact on his work.
