Social Consequences of Prohibition in USA

Prohibicja obowiązująca w USA miała bardzo duży wpływ na społeczeństwo. Głównym celem pracy jest udowodnienie, że postawiona teza, mówiąca iż prohibicja miała więcej negatywnych, niż pozytywnych skutków, jest prawdziwa. W pierwszym rozdziale opisano w jaki sposób prohibicja stała się prawem i jak ustanowiono XVIII poprawkę do konstytucji Stanów Zjednoczonych. Zawarte są również informacje o najważniejszych aktach prohibicyjnych oraz wymieniono najważniejsze organizacje walczące o przeforsowanie prawa. W drugiej części opisano pierwsze reakcje społeczeństwa na nowe prawo, zamieszczono informacje o organizacjach walczących o zniesienie prohibicji. Wspomniane zostały ikony tamtych czasów, takie jak: Al Capone, czy flapper girl. W ostatnim rozdziale wyszczególniono konsekwencje jakie spowodowało nowe prawo, takie jak : nielegalna produkcja alkoholu, rozwój przestępczości zorganizowanej czy też wskaźnik zgonów oraz jego zmiany w okresie obowiązywania prohibicji. Zawarto również informacje o zniesieniu prawa oraz o wprowadzeniu XXI poprawki do konstytucji USA.

Prohibition is believed to have had a major impact on the lives of the population in the United States. The main purpose of this paper is to prove that there were more negative effects then positive ones. The first chapter refers to establishing the prohibition (XVIII Amendment to US Constitution). There is some information about the most significant prohibition acts. There is also mentioned Temperance Movement and the most important organizations that wanted to enforce the prohibition. The second part of assignment focuses on living conditions in the US during the prohibition times, in 1920s. What is more, there is some information about the icons of the times such as Al Capone and flapper girl. In addition it is showed how the average people responded to the new low and how they behaved. They created some organizations which resisted the prohibition and wanted to repeal XVIII Amendment.The final chapter contains the consequences of the prohibition such as illegal alcohol production, smuggling business and death of people caused by the consumption of poisonous alcohol. There is also reference to the repeal of prohibition and XXI Amendment to the constitution of US.
