Functions of illustrations in books for young adults from bestseller lists from categories fiction and fantasy in the 21st century in Poland

Praca magisterska opisuje funkcje i istotę ilustracji w książkach dla young adults na rynku polskim. Analiza oparta została o przeprowadzone autorskie badania na temat wydawnictw współcześnie oferujących książki dla YA oraz list bestsellerów. Poruszone zostały zagadnienia historii ilustracji dla młodzieży oraz literatury kierowanej do tej grupy do tej pory marginalizowanej, budowanie definicji pojęcia młodzież oraz young adults oraz projektowania dla tego odbiorcy. W konsekwencji poprowadziło to do wyróżnienia funkcji, jakie ilustracja spełnia w książkach dla young adults.

Master's thesis describes the functions and essence of illustrations in books for young adults on the Polish market. The analysis was based on a authorial study of contemporary publishers offering books for YA and bestseller lists. Mentioned topics are as follows: the issues of illustrative history for youth and literature targeted to this group who have been marginalized so far, the definition of the concept of youth and young adults has been discussed and designed for this audience. As a consequence, this led to the distinction of the functions illustrated in the books for young adults.
