Transhumanist visions of man in modern culture (based on the given examples)

Autorka w swojej pracy przedstawia transhumanistyczne koncepcje człowieka w kulturze współczesnej na przykładzie powieści "Czarne oceany" Jacka Dukaja, trylogii "Brzydcy", "Śliczni", "Wyjątkowi" Scotta Westerfelda oraz serialu "Black mirror" Charliego Brookera. Pierwsza część pracy stanowi wprowadzenie do filozofii transhumanizmu. Autorka przedstawia założenia owej dziedziny i jej najważniejszych przedstawicieli oraz krytyków. W dalszej części pracy ukazane zostają literackie kreacje transhumanistycznej rzeczywistości, możliwy rozwój technologii, elementy filozofii humanizmu ewolucyjnego oraz wpływ owych czynników na człowieka i społeczeństwo. Autorka następnie przedstawia transhumanizm jako przedmiot refleksji współczesnych tekstów kultury, dociekając przyczyn negatywnej oceny filozofii w wybranych dystopijnych pozycjach. Ostatnia część pracy podsumowuje wnioski przeprowadzonych analiz, koncentrując się na pojęciach dehumanizacji, zaniku tożsamości i etyki wykorzystania technologii.

The author in her thesis presents the transhumanist visions of man in modern culture, based on the given examples of "Black oceans" by Jacek Dukaj, trylogy "Uglies", "Pretties", "Specials" by Scott Westerfeld and the "Black mirror" TV series. The first part of the thesis is the introduction to the philosophy of transhumanism. The author presents the main assumptions of the mentioned discipline, recalls its major representatives and the critics. Furthermore, the literary implementations of the transhuman reality, the possible development of technology, the elements of the evolutionary humanism philosophy, and the impact of those aspects on the human and the society are presented. Subsequently, the author introduces the transhumanism as the subject of the reflection of modern texts of culture, investigating the causes of the negative evaluation of the mentioned philosophy in the chosen dystopian narrations. The last part of the work aims in summarizing the conclusions of the analysis, focusing on the notions such as dehumanization, decline of one’s identity and the ethics of taking advantages of technology.
