Jacek Dehnel – a Writer's Self-portrait and Autobiography

Niniejsza praca magisterska analizuje strategie autokreacyjne pisarza i poety Jacka Dehnela na wybranych płaszczyznach jego twórczości literackiej i paraliterackiej, a także w aktywności pozaliterackiej. Rozważania zogniskowane są wokół dwóch pojęć z zakresu nauki o literaturze i sztuce: autobiografii i autoportretu. Rozprawa składa się w dwóch zasadniczych części. I część zawiera teoretyczne wprowadzenie w poruszaną problematykę, definicje i omówienie podstawowych pojęć (pod kątem zarówno teoretycznoliterackim, jak i filozoficznym).II część to analizy i interpretacje wybranych utworów Jacka Dehnela. Rozdział I koncentruje się na dzienniku literackim pod tytułem "Dziennik roku chrystusowego", rozdział II zaś na zbiorze felietonów "Młodszy księgowy. O książkach, czytaniu i pisaniu". Rozdział III zawiera analizy i interpretacje wybranych wierszy Jacka Dehnela, a IV – próz ilustrujących stare fotografie w książce "Fotoplastikon". Rozdział V podejmuje wątek obecności pisarza w mediach masowych i jego aktywności na portalu społecznościowym Facebook. Do tej części pracy dołożony jest również appendix, który zawiera analizę rozmowy z Jackiem Dehnelem, zamieszczonej w tomie "Jak oni pracują". Zasadniczy cel pracy stanowi opis najbardziej istotnych strategii autokreacyjnych pisarza. Należą tu między innymi: anachroniczność jego autoportretu, stylizacja dziewiętnasto- / wczesnodwudziestowieczna, postmodernistyczne gry z formą, aktywność polityczna i społeczna, stanowcze poglądy na religię, kulturę i sztukę, łączenie tradycji z nowoczesnością, ironia oraz swoiste poczucie wyższości. Pracę zamyka zakończenie, które sumuje całość rozważań i wytycza dalsze perspektywy badawcze.

The thesis analyses self-creation strategies by the writer and poet Jacek Dehnel in chosen dimensions of his literary and paraliterary work as well as his activity outside of literature. The discussion is centred upon two terms related to literary studies and art: autobiography and self-portrait. The dissertation is composed of two main parts.Part 1 contains a theoretical introduction to the subject area, definitions and a discussion of rudimentary terms (from both the literary and the philosophical perspectives). Part 2 comprises the analyses and interpretations of Jacek Dehnel's chosen works. Chapter 1 focuses on a diary entitled "Dziennik roku chrystusowego", whereas Chapter 2 deals with a collection of feuilletons entitled "Młodszy księgowy. O książkach, czytaniu i pisaniu". Chapter 3 contains the analyses and interpretations of Jacek's chosen poems, and Chapter 4 – prose illustrating old photographs in the book "Fotoplastikon". Chapter 5 enters upon the topic of the writer's presence in mass media and his activity on the social network Facebook. Appended to this part of the thesis is an analysis of Jacek's conversation from the volume "Jak oni pracują". The prime aim of the work is a description of the most significant selfcreation strategies employed by the writer. Those include among other things the anachronism of his self-portrait, a 19th century and early 20th century style, postmodern plays with form, political and social activity, pronounced beliefs on religion, culture and art, combining the past with the present, irony and a peculiar sense of humour. The thesis concludes with the recapitulation of the discussion and the indications of future research directions.
