Analysis of the Sicilian features in Camilleri's novels "The Shape of Water" and "The Terracotta Dog"

Celem niniejszej pracy magisterskiej jest zmierzenie się z tematem cech sycylijskich w powieściach “Kształt wody” i “Pies z terakoty” sycylijskiego pisarza Andrei Camillerego. Interesujące są także techniki, za pomocą których autor dostosowuje dialektyzmy do języka włoskiego i tym samym do zwykłego czytelnika nieznającego dialektu sycylijskiego. Pierwszy rozdział poświęcony jest zagadnieniu włoskiego repertuaru językowego ze szczególnym zwróceniem uwagi na dialekt Sycylii. W drugiej części koncentruję się na postaci Andrei Camillerego i powodach, dla których autor częściowo pisze w dialekcie. W trzecim, analitycznym rozdziale poddane są analizie sycylianizmy napotkane w korpusie językowym według cech fonetycznych, morfologiczno-składniowych i tych leksykalnych.

The aim of the present thesis is to face the topic of Sicilian features in Andrea Camilleri’s novels “The Shape of Water” and “The Terracotta Dog”. It is interesting to observe how the author adapts dialectal words to Italian and in the same time to an ordinary reader who does not speak Sicilian. The first chapter is dedicated to the concept of Italian linguistic repertoire with a particular emphasis on the Sicilian dialect. In the second part I focus on the figure of Andrea Camilleri and reasons for which he writes partially in dialect. In the third, analytical chapter I analyze the Sicilian words met in the books in terms of phonetic, morpho-sintactic and lexical features.

Lo scopo della presente tesi è quello di affrontare il tema dei tratti siciliani nei romanzi “La forma dell’acqua” e “Il cane di terracotta” dello scrittore siciliano Andrea Camilleri. È interessante osservare le tecniche con le quali il romanziere adatta le parole dialettali all’italiano e nello stesso tempo a un lettore medio che non parla il siciliano. Il primo capitolo della tesi è dedicato al concetto del repertorio linguistico italiano con un particolare accento sul dialetto della Sicilia. Nella seconda parte ci si concentra sulla persona di Andrea Camilleri e sulle motivazioni per cui lo scrittore scrive parzialmente in dialetto. Nel terzo capitolo analitico vengono analizzati i sicilianismi riscontrati nel copus linguistico a seconda dei tratti fonologici, morfosintattici e quelli lessicali.
