Praca poświęcona jest genius loci (łac. duch miejsca) krakowskiej kawiarni „Dym”. Autor stosując metodologię teorii ugruntowanej, historii mówionej i antropologicznych badań terenowych opisuje krakowską kawiarnię w perspektywie mikropolis – „miasta osobistego”. Dla analizy zastosowano różne podejścia teoretyczne, takie jak antropologia miasta, antropologia organizacji, czy antropologia codzienności by opisać wewnętrzną mikro-kulturę kawiarni z dwudziestoletnią tradycją. Podstawowym źródłem treści i interpretacji, stanowiących o unikalnym charakterze kultury „Dymu” są ludzie – właściciele, pracownicy i klienci. Dokonano również analizy materialności (wystroju, układu wnętrza, itd.). Ta kawiarnia wpływa na aktorów tworząc specyficzny styl życia, jednocześnie będąc przez nich kreowana.

The work is dedicated to genius loci (spirit of the place) of the cracovian coffeehouse named „Dym”. The author using grounded theory, oral history and anthropological fieldwork describe coffeehouse in the view of „micropolis” – „personal city”. For analisis several theoretical conceptions have been used: urban anthropology, anthropology of organizations, or anthropology of everyday life – to describe inside micro-culture of coffeehouse with 20-year tradition. Basic source of symbolic content and interpretations, witch decide of unique culture of „Dym” are people – the owners, bartenders and clients. Also analysis of materiality (decor, interior, etc) has been used. This coffeehouse affects at social actors by creating intrinsic lifestyle, simultaneously being affected by those people.
