Health resorts for jewish children in Rabka and Zakopane

Praca przedstawia funkcjonowanie sanatoriów dla dzieci żydowskich w Rabce i Zakopanem w okresie bezpośrednio po II wojnie światowej. Nakreśla sytuację ocalałych Żydów, skupiając się głównie na losach dzieci z pochodzeniem żydowskim. Proces tworzenia się sierocińców i ośrodków dla ocalałych Żydów był jednym z pierwszych elementów opieki nad ocalonymi z Zagłady. W pracy przedstawione zostały problemy z jakimi borykały się powstające po wojnie instytucje wspierające osoby pochodzenia żydowskiego. Jedną z najbardziej dramatycznych konsekwencji wojny były losy osieroconych dzieci żydowskich po wyzwoleniu. Część z nich trafiała do ośrodków takich jak te w Rabce czy Zakopanem. Oba sanatoria funkcjonowały jednak bardzo krótko. W tekście analizie poddane zostały przyczyny szybkiego zamknięcia ośrodków opiekuńczo wychowawczych.

The paper concerns the functioning of health resorts for the Jewish children in Rabka and Zakopane during the period immediately after the Second World War and the Holocaust. The situation of the rescued Jews, with special regard to the children of Jewish origin is addressed. Creating orphanages and care centres for the surviving Jews was one of the first actions taken within the Holocaust survivors protection plan. Problems and issues concerning the newly established institutions of support for the people of Jewish origin are presented. The tragic fate of the orphaned children, as a consequence of the war, has been discussed, with a special concern of the ones put in care centres in Rabka and Zakopane. Both health resorts ceased operating after a very short time. The reasons of such prompt closing of the aforementioned centres are part of the analysis.
