The Lizard King as a Cursed Poet. Poetical Autocreation and the Meaning of James Douglas Morrison's Poetry.

Celem pracy magisterskiej jest pokazanie, że James Douglas Morrison (szerzej znany jako Jim Morrison) należy do grona tzw. poetów wyklętych. Większość osób kojarzy jego postać jedynie jako wokalistę jednego z najpopularniejszych zespołów rockowych lat 60. w USA - The Doors. Praca ta skupia się na pokazaniu, że James Douglas Morrison w swojej szerokiej działalności artystycznej głównie skupiał się na pisaniu poezji. Ukazane są tu różnice między Jimem - wokalistą a Jamesem - poetą a także zwrócona została uwaga na wartość merytoryczną tekstów piosenek, które stworzył. Co za tym idzie trzeba zaznaczyć, że napisane przez Morrisona słowa do utworów The Doors także są utworami poetyckimi. Ważnym elementem w życiu Jima była jego autokreacja, która miała duży wpływ na jego karierę i wizerunek. James był także performerem- jego kontrowersyjne koncerty po dziś dzień wzbudzają emocje. Twórczość Jamesa Douglas Morrisona ma charakter amerykanistyczny. W swoich utworach odnosi się on nie tylko do burzliwej sytuacji lat 60. w USA, ale także zastanawia się nad kondycją amerykańskiego społeczeństwa i przyszłością tego kraju. Głównym zamierzeniem tej pracy jest przedstawienie Morrisona jako godnego uwagi amerykańskiego poetę, którego twórczość jest warta analizy literackiej a także ustalenia jej pozycji w literaturze amerykańskiej.

The aim of the thesis is to show that James Douglas Morrison (widely known as Jim Morrison) is one of the so-called accursed poets. Most people associate his figure only as a vocalist of one of the most popular rock bands of the 60s in the US - The Doors. This work focuses on showing that James Douglas Morrison in his extensive artistic activity has focused mainly on writing poetry. Here are shown the differences between Jim – a singer, and James - a poet and also the attention is brought to the merit of the lyrics that he has created. Hence it should be noted that written by Morrison words to the songs of The Doors are also a poetry. An important element in the life of Jim was his autocreation, which had a big impact on his career and image. James was also a performer- his controversial concerts evoke a lot of emotions even to this day. The works of James Douglas Morrison have an American character. In his poems he refers not only to the turbulent '60s in the US but also he reflects on the condition of the American society and the future of this country. The main aim of this paper is to present Morrison as a remarkable American poet, whose work is worthy of a literary analysis and determining its position in American literature.
