Humor w tłumaczeniu (na podstawie porównania dwóch polskich przekładów książki Jerome’a K. Jerome’a Trzech panów w łódce (nie licząc psa))

Niniejsza praca magisterska podejmuje tematykę związaną z analizą porównawczą dotyczącą tłumaczenia humoru na podstawie dwóch polskich tłumaczeń książki Jerome’a K. Jerome’a dokonanych przez Kazimierza Piotrowskiego (1986) oraz Tomasza Bieronia (1998). Praca zawiera trzy rozdziały oraz materiał badawczy mający 233 przykłady humoru z książki, znajdujący się w załączniku oraz ankietę, która została wypełniona przez 10 ankietowanych. W rozdziale pierwszym wyjaśniono, czym jest humor, poczucie humoru i na czym polega tłumaczenie humoru. Ponadto wymieniono i opisano typy humoru oraz strategie i techniki tłumaczenia humoru. W rozdziale drugim przedstawiono najważniejsze informacje dotyczące Jerome’a K. Jerome’a – autora Trzech panów w łódce (nie licząc psa) oraz omawianej w pracy książki, a także wyjaśniono, dlaczego jest uważana za jedną z najbardziej humorystycznych książek wszechczasów. W tym rozdziale przedstawiono również sylwetki obu tłumaczy oraz podano informacje dotyczące innych polskich tłumaczeń i wydań książki. Omówiono w nim również funkcję podtytułów w oryginale i jego dwóch polskich tłumaczeniach. Wyjaśniono również, jaką rolę pełnią w książce ilustracje i wspomniano o ilustracjach autorstwa Mieczysława Piotrowskiego zamieszczonych w wydaniu książki z 1986 r., tłumaczonej przez Kazimierza Piotrowskiego oraz Paula Coxa w wydaniu oryginału z 1989 r. W rozdziale trzecim opisano strategie i techniki tłumaczenia humoru występujące w książce na podstawie 16 wybranych przykładów z materiału badawczego zamieszczonego w załączniku pracy. W dwóch tabelach przedstawiono również wyniki ankiety dotyczącej jakości i skali humoru 1–10 w przykładach, które zostały ocenione przez 10 osób. Dodatkowo w trzeciej tabeli przedstawiono wyniki wyboru bardziej humorystycznego tłumaczenia, które wskazał każdy uczestnik ankiety. Należy wspomnieć, że przeprowadzone w trzecim rozdziale badania wskazały, że tłumaczenie książki dokonane przez Piotrowskiego zostało uznane za bardziej humorystyczne i lepiej ocenione przez uczestników ankiety w przeciwieństwie do tłumaczenia Bieronia.

The master’s thesis concerns the subject connected with the comparative analysis of humour translation of two Polish translations of the book by Jerome K. Jerome by Kazimierz Piotrowski (1986) and Tomasz Bieroń (1998). The paper contains three chapters and the research material placed in the appendix which refers to 233 examples of humour from the book and the survey completed by 10 respondents. In Chapter 1, it has been explained what humour, sense of humour and translation of humour are. In addition, the types of humour and strategies and techniques of translation have been identified and discussed in this chapter. In Chapter 2, the most important information concerning the author of the book and the book itself has been discussed. What is more, it has been explained why this book is considered one of the most humorous books of all times. The biographies of the both translators and the information concerning other Polish translators and editions of the book were presented here in this chapter as well. Moreover, the role of subheadings in the original book and the two Polish translations has been discussed in this chapter. It has been explained what the role of illustrations in the book is and it has also mentioned the illustrations placed in the edition of the book from 1986 translated by Kazimierz Piotrowski and the illustrations of Paul Cox in the edition from 1989. The strategies and techniques of translation of humour occurring in the book on the basis of the 16 selected examples of the research material placed in the appendix have been described in Chapter 3. The results of the analysis concerning the quality and the scale of humour from 1 to 10 in the selected examples assessed by 10 respondents were presented in two tables in this chapter. Additionally, the results concerning the choice of a better translation which was indicated by each respondent were presented in the third table. It is worth noting that the research conducted in Chapter 3 has shown that Piotrowski’s translation is more humorous than Bieroń’s translation and it has been better assessed by the respondents.
