A specialized Internet forum as a source of information. Analysis and evaluation of information content on the example of Polish medical forums.

Praca licencjacka omawia, na podstawie literatury przedmiotu oraz w oparciu o analizę wybranych serwisów WWW, zawartość informacyjną i przydatność dla użytkowników specjalistycznych internetowych forów medycznych. Celem było ukazanie ich specyfiki jako źródeł informacji. Po pierwsze, opisano fora internetowe jako takie oraz nakreślono, czym różnią się fora ogólnotematyczne od specjalistycznych (w tym medycznych). Po drugie, na podstawie adekwatnego piśmiennictwa wyodrębniono (niektóre) atrybuty i kryteria oceny informacji (zawartości informacyjnej) w Internecie. Elementy te posłużyły, po trzecie, do analizy wybranych "przypadków" specjalistycznych forów online, mianowicie http://pochp.mp.pl/lista.html oraz https://portal.abczdrowie.pl/zapytaj (i dwa inne w serwisie abcZdrowie,pl). na tej podstawie sformułowano wykaz właściwości, którymi cechują się specjalistyczne fora internetowe jako źródła informacji, a są m.in to aktualność, relewancja, wiarygodność, czytelność oraz dostępność. Nie należy jednak generalizować tych cech do wszystkich (nie-medycznych) specjalistycznych forów, to wymagałoby osobnego badania.

The thesis discusses, basing on the literature and on the analysis of selected websites, information content and usefulness of specialized online medical forums. The aim was to show their specifity as sources of information. First, the paper describes Internet forums as such and outlines what is the difference between specialized and not specialized forums (including the medical ones). Secondly, on the basis of the subject literature, selected attributes and criteria for the evaluation of information (information content) on the Internet were identified. These elements were used, thirdly, to analyze the chosen "cases" of specialized online forums, namely http://pochp.mp.pl/lista.html and https://portal.abczdrowie.pl/zapytaj (and two other within the website abcZdrowie.pl). On this ground, the list of properties, specific for specialized Internet forums as information sources, was developed; and those were: being up to date, relevance, credibility, readability, accessibility. Nevertheless, one cannot generalize these features to all specialized (non-medical) Internet forums, as this would need additional research.
