Napływ zachodnich trendów za panowania cara Piotra I odcisnął piętno na historii, kulturze i życiu w carskiej Rosji. Zmiany, jakie wówczas się dokonały, swym oddziaływaniem objęły również kwestie związane z modą, która odtąd stała się zagadnieniem istotnym dla rosyjskiego społeczeństwa. To właśnie za czasów panowania Piotra I nastąpił największy napływ zachodnioeuropejskich trendów. Nadmienić należy, iż standardy życia na dworze rosyjskim w niczym nie odbiegały od tych z Europy Zachodniej. Zmiany w modzie także odcisnęły piętno na ówczesnym malarstwie portretowym. Portrety z wizerunkiem kobiet i mężczyzn epoki Piotra Wielkiego doskonale ukazują nawet najmniejsze detale osiemnastowiecznej mody. Mężczyźni w niczym nie odbiegali od nadwornych dam i z dumą prezentowali swoje wyszukane ubiory. Niniejsza praca to analiza wybranych przykładów malarstwa portretowego pierwszej połowy XVIII wieku, a także próba odpowiedzi na pytanie kim byli, jaką pozycję w hierarchii społecznej zajmowali, a także co myśleli o sobie samych portretowani wtenczas ludzie.

The influence of the Western trends during the reign of Tsar Peter I was really huge and was made an important mark on history, culture and life in Tsarist Russia. The changes, which then was made, its impact also covered issues related to fashion, which since then has become an important issue for the Russian society. During the reign of Peter was the largest inflow of Western trends It should be noted that there were no difference between standards of living on the Russian royal court from those of Western Europe. Changes in fashion also left their mark on the contemporary portrait painting. Portraits of women and men silhouette,in the era of Peter the Great perfectly show even the smallest details of eighteenth-century fashion. Men fashion these days had no difference from the ladies of court and commonly men presented their elaborate costumes in a very proudly way. This academic work is also an analysis of selected examples of portrait painting in the first half of 18th century, and attempt to answer the question who the people from the royal court were, what was their position in the social hierarchy, and what they thought about themselves portrayed whereupon.
