Popularity of the works of John Green among the students of Zespół Szkół Ogólnokształcących No. 11 im. Jana Pawła II in Cracov (in the light of own research)

Celem pracy było zbadanie popularności powieści Johna Greena wśród uczniów Zespołu Szkół Ogólnokształcących nr 11 w Krakowie. W pracy zaprezentowano wyniki oraz dokonano analizy danych empirycznych uzyskanych za pomocą badań ankietowych przeprowadzonych wśród 107 uczniów, których dobrano w sposób warstwowo-losowy z gimnazjum i liceum. Scharakteryzowano aktualny stan czytelnictwa młodzieży polskiej w wieku 13-19 lat. Zbadano aktywność czytelniczą krakowskich uczniów oraz ich zainteresowania osobiste, jak i czytelnicze. Opisano motywacje i uwarunkowania społeczne nastolatków mające wpływ na ich stosunek do czytania, a także na preferencje i wybory lekturowe. Poddano analizie popularność powieści i adaptacji filmowych Johna Greena wśród wybranych respondentów. Ponadto przybliżono sylwetkę pisarza oraz jego twórczość literacką, która obejmuje aktualne problemy dotykające współczesnych nastolatków. Zwrócono również uwagę na aspekt historyczny czytelnictwa młodzieży i opublikowane w tym zakresie wyniki badań. Zweryfikowano wpływ nowoczesnej technologii w kontekście upowszechniania czytelnictwa. Wykazano, że płeć oraz wiek wpływają na aktywność czytelniczą nastolatków. Co więcej, powieści Johna Greena cieszą się niesłabnącą popularnością.

The aim of this thesis was to study the popularity of John Green's novels among the students of Zespół Szkół Ogólnokształcących No. 11 in Cracov. The results have been presented and the analysis of empirical data has been conducted - the data obtained by means of survey research among 107 students, chosen in layer-random formula from middle school and secondary school. The up-to-date condition of reading habits among the Polish students aged 13-19 has been characterised. The reading activity of Cracovian students has been investigated along with their personal interests and reading attitudes. The motivation and patterning of teenagers have been described, the ones influencing their attitude towards reading, along with their preferences and reading matter choices. The popularity of the novels and film adaptations of John Green's works among chosen respondents has been analysed. The thesis also presents the profile of the writer and his literary works, which cover contemporary problems of present-day teenagers. The historical aspect of young people reading has been taken into consideration as well as the research results in that field. The influence of modern technology in the context of popularizing the reading has been verified. It has been proved, that gender and age have an impact on the reading activity of teenagers. What is more, the novels of John Green thrive in unremitting popularity.
