Celem pracy jest przybliżenie istoty interwencji humanitarnej oraz jej podstawy prawnej. Na przykładzie dwóch państw - Kosowa i Afganistanu – zostały zaprezentowane procedury rozpoczęcia działań przez zachodnich sojuszników, przebieg misji oraz jej skutki. Niniejsza praca stanowi także próbę odpowiedzi na pytanie, przypadku przeprowadzenie interwencji humanitarnej jest skuteczne i powoduje rzeczywistą poprawę sytuacji wewnętrznej państw objętych misją. W wyniku analizy źródeł, dokumentów prawnych oraz stanu obecnego w badanych krajach wykazano, iż nie zawsze idea przyświecająca działaniom humanitarnym wiąże się z międzynarodową akceptacją, zwłaszcza w przypadku braku legitymizacji Rady Bezpieczeństwa. Wykazano także, że aby osiągnąć zamierzony cel potrzebne są długoterminowe czynności odpowiednio dostosowane do sytuacji w państwie, na terenie którego mają miejsce.

The aim of the thesis is to bring the essence of the humanitarian intervention and its legal basis. On the example of two countries – of Kosovo and Afghanistan – it was presented the process of the beginning of the action by the western allies, the course of the mission and its consequences. This thesis is also an attempt to answer the question, in which cases carrying out the humanitarian intervention is effective and cause the actual improvement of the internal situation of the countries enveloped by the mission. The analysis of the sources, the legal documents and the current situation of the audited countries, has proved that not always the idea of humanitarian interventions is linked with international acceptance, especially in the case of the lack of the legitimacy of the Security Council. It also has been showed that in order to have a full effect, the long-term actions are needed to be appropriate applied to the situation of the country on which they concern.
