Ways of spending leisure time by the Krakow schoolchildren and students at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries

Przedmiotem pracy są sposoby spędzania czasu wolnego przez młodzież szkolną i akademicką Krakowa na przełomie XIX i XX wieku. Jest to zagadnienie, które często pojawia się w różnych pracach z zakresu życia codziennego krakowian drugiej połowy XIX wieku, lecz nie stało się jak dotąd przedmiotem osobnej uwagi historyka. Zagadnienie zostało przedstawione w świetle pamiętników młodzieży oraz wybranych dzienników krakowskich z tego okresu. Praca składa się z pięciu rozdziałów. Rozdział pierwszy został poświęcony charakterystyce młodzieży szkolnej i akademickiej Krakowa oraz czasowi wolnemu, którym ta młodzież dysponowała na przełomie XIX i XX wieku. Drugi rozdział omawia życie towarzyskie młodzieży krakowskiej. Trzeci rozdział to z kolei obraz życia kulturalnego uczniów i studentów. Rozdział czwarty został poświęcony ich życiu patriotycznemu i religijnemu. Ostatni rozdział, piąty, odnosi się do zajęć sportowych praktykowanych przez młodzież krakowską oraz sposobom spędzania przez nich wakacji.

Ways of spending leisure time by the Krakow schoolchildren and students at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries are the subject of the thesis. The research problem has often been mentioned in various works about the everyday life of the Krakow townspeople, however, it has not become a separate subject of historians’ studies so far. The problem has been examined in the light of youth memories and chosen journals from the period. The thesis is composed of five chapters. The first one is devoted to the presentation of the Krakow schoolchildren and students, as well their leisure time at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The second chapter discusses the social life of the Krakow youth. The third one shows a picture of the cultural life of the schoolchildren and students. The forth one deals with their patriotic and religious life. The last chapter, the fifth, refers to sport activities practised by the Krakow youth, as well ways of spending holidays by them.
