Dendrological collection of the Botanical Garden of the Jagiellonian University and its role in environmental education

Ogród Botaniczny Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego w Krakowie założony został w 1783 roku i jest najstarszym tego typu ogrodem w Polsce. To nie tylko zakład naukowy ale również zbiór światowej flory, który posiada ogromne znaczenie kulturowe i społeczne.Celem pracy magisterskiej jest ukazanie edukacyjnej roli kolekcji roślin drzewiastych OB UJ oraz utworzenie ścieżki dydaktycznej prezentującej wybrane drzewa i krzewy z ponad 1000 gatunków i odmian rosnących na terenie Ogrodu.Punktem wyjścia było wybranie najciekawszych okazów drzewiastych oraz zgromadzenie na ich temat informacji zawartych zarówno w literaturze, jak i w zbiorach internetowych. Na podstawie zgromadzonej wiedzy opisanych zostało 107 gatunków drzew i krzewów. Informacje te wykorzystane zostały także przy tworzeniu ścieżki dydaktycznej obejmującej 36 okazów rozsianych na całej powierzchni Ogrodu.

Botanical Garden of the Jagiellonian University in Cracow was founded in 1783 and is the oldest in Poland. It is not only the scientific establishment but also a collection of the world's flora, which has enormous cultural and social value.The aim of the master’s thesis is to show the educational role of the collection of woody plants of the Botanical Garden and the creation of the educational trail presenting the selected trees and shrubs from more than 1,000 species and varieties growing in the Garden.The starting point was to select the most interesting specimens of woody plants and to collect the information about them contained both in literature and in online sources. On the basis of accumulated knowledge 107 species of trees and shrubs has been described. This information was also used to create educational trail including 36 specimens scattered over the entire surface of the Garden.
