Tematem tej pracy magisterskiej jest katastrofa w Elektrowni Atomowej w Czarnobylu w Związku Radzieckim. Najistotniejszym elementem pracy jest opisanie skutków i następstw katastrofy, ze szczególnym naciskiem na wydarzenia w Polsce. Praca podzielona jest na szereg chronologicznych rozdziałów, które opisują: historię atomu i energii atomowej, przyczyny, przebieg i skutki awarii, opis reakcji polskich władz i mediów, reakcję polskiego społeczeństwa na katastrofę, obecność Czarnobyla w mediach od roku 1986 do czasów współczesnych, a także przedstawienie w jaki sposób kreowany jest obraz Czarnobyla w mediach i kulturze popularnej. Ważnym elementem jest ukazanie zmiany jaka zaszła w sposobie ukazywania Czarnobyla, który stał się nie tylko wydarzeniem, ale także symbolem, o czym także traktuje praca.

The topic of this master thesis is a disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in the Soviet Union. The most important part of the work is to describe the effects and consequences of disaster,with particular focus on the implications for Poland. This work is divided into chronological chapters that describes: the history of the atom and nuclear energy, description of the reaction of the Polish authorities and the media,Polish society response to the disaster, Chernobyl presence in the media from 1986 to the present day and I want to show how was created the image of Chernobyl in media and popculture. The important thing that I want to show are changes in view of Chernobyl, which become not only an event but also a symbole.
