Quality of life before and after cataract surgery

Wstęp: Zaćma to częściowe lub całkowite zmętnienie soczewki. Stanowi problem zdrowotny dla ludzi na całym świecie, dotyka głównie osoby po 70 roku życia. Obecnie granica ta uległa obniżeniu. Jedynym skutecznym sposobem leczenia zaćmy jest leczenie chirurgiczne. Rozwój współczesnej medycyny, w tym nowoczesnych technik operacyjnych, mikronarzędzi, aparatury oraz soczewek wewnątrzgałkowych przyczynił się do efektywności leczenia.Cel pracy: Celem pracy jest ocena jakości życia pacjentów przed i po zabiegu operacyjnym usunięciu zaćmy.Materiał i metoda: W badaniach uczestniczyło 30 pacjentów hospitalizowanych z powodu zaćmy (17 kobiet i 13 mężczyzn). Do zebrania danych zastosowano metodę sondażu diagnostycznego. Narzędziem badawczym był autorski kwestionariusz ankiety oraz wystandaryzowany kwestionariusz oceniający Jakość Życia WHOQOL-BREF. Badanie przeprowadzono w dwóch etapach, pierwszy etap- dzień przed planowanym zabiegiem operacyjnym usunięcia zaćmy i drugi etap- jeden miesiąc po zabiegu. Wyniki badań przedstawiono w formie ilościowej, jakościowej, w tabelach i na wykresach oraz w formie opisowej.Wyniki: Poziom jakości życia przed zabiegiem operacyjnym był oceniony jako przeciętny. Badanie wykazało istotny statystycznie wpływ zaćmy na ogólny stan zdrowia.Jakość życia badanych przed zabiegiem była wyższa niż ocena ogólnego stanu zdrowia. Zmienne takie jak wiek, płeć i stan cywilny badanych nie wpłynęły istotnie na percepcję jakości życia przed i po zabiegu. Wnioski: Zabieg operacyjny istotnie wpływa na poprawę zdolności pacjentów do samoobsługi.Wzrasta ocena ogólnego stanu zdrowia. Jakość życia pacjentów po zabiegu operacyjnym ulega znacznej poprawie w badanych dziedzinach: fizycznej, psychologicznej, społecznej oraz środowiskowej.

Introduction: Cataract is connected with partially or entirely decreased vision. It is a health problem for people all over the world, it affects people who are over 70 years old. Nowadays, the borderline is decreased. The only effective way to treat cataract is a surgical treatment. The development of contemporary medicine, including modern surgical methods, micro devices, apparatus and intraocular lenses, has had an influence on effects of treatment. The aim of the thesis: The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the patients' quality of life before and after the surgical operation of cataract. Material and methods: 30 inpatients suffering from cataract participated in the study (17 women and 13 men). Diagnostic survey was a method that was applied to collect data. A research tool was an author's survey as well as standardized questionnaire assessing the Quality of life WHOQOL-BREF. The research was conducted in two stages, the first one- a day before planned surgical operation of removing cataract and the second stage- one month after the operation. The results are presented in a quantitative form, quality form, tables and in charts as well as in a descriptive form. Results: The level of life before the cataract operation was assessed as average. The study showed statistically important influence of cataract on the general health condition. The quality of life of patients before the operation was higher than the assess of general health condition. Variables such as age, sex and marital status did not have an essential influence on quality of life's perception before the cataract operation.Conclusion: The operation influences on improvement of patients' self-service. The assessment of general health condition has increased. The quality of patients' lives after the cataract operation underwent essential improvements in studied fields: physical, psychological, social as well as environmental.
