Tibet, Bhutan, Ethnic Identity, Religion, Culture.
Tibet, Bhutan, Ethnic Identity, Religion, Culture.
Throughout the history, Tibet (China) and Bhutan had and have an intimate yet complicated relationship from cultural, political and ethnic identity point of view. Because of the close connection, as a native Tibetan I have raised doubts about the Cultural and Ethnic Identity of Tibetan and Bhutanese people, commonly considered very close or even identical. This topic has not been researched specifically yet. The purpose of my research is by comparing these two apparently similar cultures to figure out what are the similarities and differences that both cultures share, and how did two similar regions developed into complete different directions and finally are we the same people after all. This Thesis is a comparative research based on the Architecture, Language and Religion aspects of Tibetan and Bhutanese culture. Using the definitions of Identity to support the statement of despite the great similarities and connection shared by Tibetan and Bhutanese people, the two groups share different Identity.
